Shepard Boys Tennis Team Takes on Another Year

The state qualifying Alan B. Shepard boys double team of Senior Jakub Zulnik and Senior Timothy Kopec will soon begin a new season competing for the state title.

 

The doubles team is a duo to keep your eye on this season. With a strong start and ending to last years season we can expect the same out of them this year. The team finished With a 12-6 record last season. The team finished first in the south Suburban  Conference tournament at Shepard last season.

 

The team as a whole was very strong throughout the entire year, winning many of the matches as long with a few students who were close to state qualifying also. Which includes senior Sam Vander Weele and Nicholas Wysocki. With 2 Doubles teams and one singles making Sectionals.

Coach Patrick O’boy has said great things about this team overall, and what is expected to come. “We have many talented individuals who are sticking with us this upcoming season, a long with a few incoming freshman. Hopefully the boys start off where they left off last season.”

 

With the large amount of hopeful newcomers this season, they have a lot to learn from the older guys. These freshman are the future of the Alan B. Shepard tennis team.

 

Senior Sam Vander Weele is looking forward to the upcoming season, where he can hopefully make it to state. “ Last season I practiced daily to improve for this year. I am looking forward to showing them what I have to offer this year, and hopefully clinch a spot at state.” Said Vander Weele.

 

With practice starting this week, and matches next month the tennis team will practice tiredly in the cold on the courts till their first match. In the meantime they have been doing team building activities in the classroom.

Although Tennis which is one of the least popular sports are looking to get some attention this upcoming season. If you would like to join Boys tennis this season see Mr. O’boy. They would like to have Shepard students and staff come out and support them in the games. They feel if they had some support, they could achieve greatness. So come out and support the Boys Tennis team this Spring.
