Swimming and Diving Sectionals
The Shepard’s Girls Swimming and Diving team competed at Lockport Township High School for sectionals.
They placed sixth overall and only were 14 points away from third place. Several individuals swam well.. The competition was held on Saturday, November 16 Overall, head coach Taylor Burmeister was pleased with this season’s results.
The girls that competed were Sara McNicholas in backstroke, Ali Zemeckis the team’s most consistent and fastest 500 meter free styler ) Also swimming for the Lady Astros was Isabel O’Connell, and Franny Serdar in the breaststroke, Marissa Florez, Jess Sparks , Brianna Sweas, Gabby Lejaams Gabby Barnas.
According to coach Taylor Burmeister, “Marissa Florez killed it at every meet and a lot of new swimmers (Gabby, Kat, and AnnMarie) swam outstanding and dropped time.
One of the most memorable moments this season was when the team went to Feed My Starving Children which was a positive team-building service experience according to Burmeister.
As far as the future, it looks very positive. Only three seniors are graduating and the fastest relays are mainly underclassmen. The first diving coach was hired in the district at Shepard.
