So many things are changing as time goes on. Some for the better, and some some for the worse.
One thing that is changing and continues to change are the laws.
One of the latest laws that have been recently changed is the requirement of gym class for kids in grammar school though high school.
You used to need at least one full period of activity and exercise in your schedule.
Now it’s not a requirement, although it’s still an elective.
Student Valerie Banis said “ I think it is a terrible idea, because, teachers will lose jobs.”
According to Valerie “Obesity rates will increase because no high school kid will want to work out willingly.”
I don’t agree with this law due the fact that childhood obesity is said to be one of the leading causes of childhood death rates.
Curriculum director of physical education, health, and driver education Dan Cronin said, “ I think this will have a negative effect on the kids, because they need physical activity.”
So if obesity is causing the death of multiple children then why would the state revoke the requirement of gym class.
All that is going to do is increase the obesity rates.
Banis feels that “ This will effect students graduation requirements, because they are going to have to take more curricular classes, which may make it more challenging to graduate due to each class having more kids.”
I also find it quite ironic that the sugar tax happened around the same time as the revoking of the requirement of gym class to graduate.
Revoking the gym class requirement is bad for kids health, then you have the sugar tax that is at least an attempt to better children’s health.
Cronin also mentioned how Shepard can and probably will still require PE class.
Illinois is one of the only states that still has daily PE left.
Once this law actually takes place many teachers will be out of jobs, and other teachers will most likely get greater amounts of kids put into their classes.
With so many gym classes being lost, other classes will be more crowded than ever.
